When a Closed Door Isn't the End: The Beauty of Becoming in the Hallway
"Sometimes the greatest blessing isn't the door that opens... it's the woman you become while you're waiting for it."
Have You Ever Stood in the Hallways of Life?
I don't dream often, but when I do...it's worth paying attention.
I stood there with my hand resting on a door I thought would define the rest of my life.
The click I heard wasn't opportunity swinging open.
It was a lock engaging.
In that moment, the silence became deafening. My carefully constructed plans scattered before me, my confidence wavered, and one question settled deep within my heart...
Now what?
Perhaps you've stood in that hallway too.
Maybe it was a relationship that unexpectedly ended.
A career that came to an abrupt close.
A business opportunity that disappeared without explanation.
Or perhaps it was a dream you prayed over for years that simply never unfolded the way you imagined.
If so, I want you to know something...
You are not alone.
What If the Closed Door Isn't Rejection?
When doors close, our first instinct is often to assume we've failed.
We question our worth.
We question our timing.
Sometimes we even question God.
But what if we've been asking the wrong question?
Instead of asking...
"Why did this happen to me?"
What if we asked...
"What is this protecting me from?"
Because sometimes the very "no" we're grieving today becomes the greatest "thank You, God" we'll ever speak tomorrow.

My Hallway Story
When I walked away from my corporate career, it didn't feel victorious.
It felt uncertain.
It felt uncomfortable.
It felt like I had lost part of my identity.
I wasn't simply grieving a paycheck.
I was grieving the woman I thought I had to become in order to succeed.
Looking back now...
I realize something powerful.
God never closed that door to punish me.
He closed it because I had outgrown the room.
The hallway became my classroom.
It became the place where purpose was refined.
Vision became clearer.
Confidence became authentic.
Faith became stronger.
And most importantly...
I became the woman capable of carrying the assignment God had always intended for me.
The Hallway Has Purpose
We often think the hallway is empty.
It isn't.
It's the middle...
The hallway is where transformation happens.
It's where healing quietly begins.
It's where confidence is rebuilt one decision at a time.
It's where your character catches up to your calling.
Before every promotion...
Before every breakthrough...
Before every answered prayer...
There is almost always a hallway.
Don't rush through it.
Grow through it.
Her Glow Up!™ Practical Steps
1. Give Yourself Permission to Grieve
A closed door represents a real ending.
Strength isn't pretending you're okay.
Strength is allowing yourself to acknowledge the disappointment while refusing to stay there.
Healing begins with honesty.
2. Change the Question
Instead of asking...
"Why me?"
Ask...
What is this season teaching me?
What strengths am I developing?
Who am I becoming because of this experience?
Curiosity transforms disappointment into discovery.
3. Keep Moving Forward
You don't need giant leaps.
You need faithful steps.
Send the email.
Apply for the opportunity.
Write the first page.
Attend the networking event.
Make the phone call.
Research consistently shows that taking small intentional actions restores confidence and reduces feelings of helplessness during life's transitions.
Progress creates momentum.
4. Protect Your Mind
Comparison has no place in your hallway.
Someone else's breakthrough does not delay yours.
Stay rooted.
Pray.
Journal.
Read.
Move your body.
Spend time with people who remind you of your purpose instead of your fears.
Your environment matters.
5. Trust God's Timing
One of my favorite reminders comes from Psalm 119:105:
"Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
Notice something...
God doesn't promise a spotlight showing the entire journey.
He promises enough light for the next faithful step.
And sometimes...
That's all we need.
Reflection Corner
This week, spend a few quiet moments reflecting on these questions:
What closed door am I still grieving?
Am I asking "Why?" more than I'm asking "What's next?"
What lesson is this hallway trying to teach me?
Who am I becoming because I had to wait?
Your answers may surprise you.
This Week's Glow Up! Challenge
Take fifteen minutes this week and write a letter to the closed door.
Thank it.
Not because it didn't hurt...
But because it helped shape the person you're becoming.
Then turn the page.
Write three blessings that have come from standing in the hallway.
You may discover you've grown far more than you realized.
Affirmation of the Week
"I trust God's divine timing. Every closed door is preparing me for something greater. I refuse to confuse delay with denial. I embrace the hallway because I know I am not simply waiting... I am becoming the woman God created me to be."
Final Thoughts
If you're standing in the hallway today...
Don't spend your life knocking on doors God intentionally closed.
Don't waste precious energy trying to reopen chapters Heaven has already finished writing.
Instead...
Look down the hallway.
Notice your growth.
Celebrate your resilience.
Honor your faith.
Because one day another door will open.
And when it does, you had better walk through it...
You'll realize the greatest blessing wasn't simply entering a new room...
It was becoming a brand-new version of yourself while you waited.
Until next Wednesday...
Keep growing.
Keep believing.
Keep glowing.
Because your story doesn't end at the closed door.
It begins in the hallway.
With Intention,
