Learning to Trust God When Life Doesn't Look Like You Expected

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."— Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

There is one thing every woman will experience, no matter her age, income, title, relationship status, or faith journey: Seasons.

There was a time in my life when I believed every season should look like growth.

If I wasn't producing...If I wasn't building...If I wasn't moving...Then somehow, I convinced myself that I was failing.

I measured God's faithfulness by my progress instead of His presence.

I judged my purpose by my productivity.

And somewhere between surviving and striving, I forgot that even nature understands something many of us resist:

Knowing and Acknowledging the Season that you are in.

Every tree.Every flower.Every harvest.Every river.

They all honor their season.

Yet somehow, we expect ourselves to remain strong every day...certain every moment...productive every season...and emotionally unshaken through every storm.

The truth is...

God never asked us to bloom continuously.

He simply asked us to trust Him continuously...and always.

Every Season Has An Assignment

One of the greatest mistakes we make is believing that every season should feel comfortable.

It won't.

Because every season was designed to develop something different inside of you.

Learn your seasons...and 'Why' they exists.

Spring introduces...gives birth...renews.

Summer stretches...is fruitful...produces.

Autumn releases..sheds...prepares.

Winter restores....preserves...resets.

Imagine trying to harvest fruit during winter.

It would seem impossible.

Not because something is wrong...

But because that's simply not what winter was created to do.

Yet how often do we criticize ourselves because we aren't producing during seasons when God is asking us to rest?

Sometimes we pray for increase while resisting preparation.

We ask God for elevation while avoiding transformation.

We desire purpose without process.

But Heaven understands something we often forget...

Preparation always precedes promotion.

 Every season was designed to develop something different inside of you.

Stop Comparing Your Season

Comparison has become one of the greatest thieves of peace.

Social media has convinced us that everyone else is winning while we're waiting.

Someone is getting married.

Someone just bought a home.

Someone launched the business.

Someone received the promotion.

Someone wrote the book.

Someone seems happier.

More successful.

More fulfilled.

Meanwhile...

You quietly wonder if God skipped your address.

But here's what I've learned...

You are comparing someone's harvest to your planting season.

You're measuring someone else's chapter twenty against your chapter three.

Every harvest began as an unseen seed.

Every success required hidden work.

Every testimony started as a trial.

What God is growing inside of you cannot be rushed simply because someone else's season looks different.

Some Seasons Feel Like Loss...

Not every ending is punishment.

Sometimes it is protection.

Sometimes God closes doors because He knows that what's behind it is not needed for your purpose.

Sometimes friendships expire because your purpose has outgrown your comfort.

Sometimes careers become uncomfortable because your calling refuses to remain hidden.

I've learned this firsthand.

There was a season where I questioned almost everything.

Walking away from corporate life wasn't simply changing careers.

It was changing identity.

For years, titles gave me confidence.

Productivity gave me worth.

Performance gave me validation.

Until God quietly asked me...

"Who are you when all of that is gone?"... (sit with that for a moment)

That question changed everything.

Because purpose isn't something you wear, purchase or earn.

Purpose is who you become.

Winter Isn't Empty

Winter often feels lonely.

The prayers seem quieter.

The opportunities fewer.

The waiting longer.

The answers delayed.

But beneath frozen ground...

Roots are growing.

Things are happening that no one can see.

The strongest trees develop some of their deepest roots before anyone ever notices new leaves.

Your life is no different.

Just because people cannot see your progress doesn't mean God isn't working.

He's always at work.

Growth underground is still growth.

Healing in private is still healing.

Rest is still obedience.

Waiting is still movement when you're walking with God.

When you are working...God rests...

But when you rest...God goes to work.

Don't Leave The Season Too Soon

I promise you that none of us is exempt.

One of the hardest lessons I've ever learned was this:

Pain has a purpose.

Not because God delights in our suffering...

But because pain has a remarkable way of revealing what comfort often conceals.

Some seasons expose fear.

Others reveal pride.

Some uncover people-pleasing.

Others expose perfectionism.

Some reveal our need for control.

If we rush through the season...

We often repeat the lesson.

God isn't delaying your future.

He's developing the woman who will be able to sustain it.

There is a difference.

He's developing the woman who will be able to sustain it.

Five Ways to Thrive in Every Season

1. Stop asking, "When will this end?" and begin asking, "What is this teaching me?"

The quality of your questions often determines the quality of your growth.

Reflection creates wisdom.

Resistance creates frustration.

2. Honor the pace God has set.

Everything doesn't need immediate answers.

Some prayers mature over time.

Trust that delayed isn't always denied.

3. Release what no longer belongs in your current season.

Old habits.

Expired relationships.

Negative self-talk.

Outdated identities.

You cannot embrace what God is bringing while holding tightly to what He has already asked you to release.

4. Stay rooted in daily disciplines.

Your spiritual life should not depend on your emotions.

Continue praying.

Continue journaling.

Continue reading Scripture.

Continue showing up.

Consistency will often carry you where motivation cannot.

5. Remember who controls the seasons.

The season doesn't belong to your employer.

Your circumstances.

Your finances.

Or your emotions.

They belong to God.

If He appointed this season...

He has already provided the grace you'll need to walk through it.

A Gentle Reminder

If you're in a season of rebuilding...

You're not behind.

If you're in a season of waiting...

You're not forgotten.

If you're in a season of grieving...

You're not abandoned.

If you're in a season of becoming...

You're exactly where growth often begins.

The woman you're praying to become cannot emerge without seasons that challenge the woman you've always been.

Trust the process.

Trust God's timing.

Trust that every season carries purpose—even the ones you never would have chosen.

Because one day...

You'll look back and realize that what felt like everything was falling apart...

was actually everything quietly falling into place.

Reflection Questions

Take a few moments this week to journal through these questions:

• What season am I currently living in?

• What is God trying to teach me here?

• What do I need to release before I can embrace what's next?

• Where have I mistaken waiting for failure?

• What evidence of growth have I overlooked simply because it wasn't visible?

Sometimes your greatest breakthrough begins with one honest answer.

This Week's HER Glow Up! Challenge

For the next seven days, spend ten quiet minutes each morning asking God one simple question:

"Lord, what does this season require of me today?"

Instead of focusing on changing your season...

Focus on becoming the woman your season is preparing you to be.
